It's "The Magic of Mahackeno"
Many people have been touched by the "Magic of Mahackeno." When you think of camp - you're imagining a place like Mahackeno,
where all children have the chance to strive and succeed. From swimming, canoeing, hiking, theater and campfires; Mahackeno
is summer camp at it's best.
Each day, we create an action packed, fun filled "envelope of safety" for campers. We often hear from campers how awesome and
wonderful they feel at Camp Mahackeno. Our counselors are the people who make this happen.
Our staff re-invent the "magic of camp" daily. Spirited silliness, themed days, camp-songs, laughter, lots of structure and
hands-on activities lead to fun and personal growth.
It's our long tradition and history...
Founded in 1938, Camp Mahackeno's tradition goes back over 68 years. For each of those summers, kids have headed off to camp,
backpacks stuffed with swimsuits, waterbottles and sunscreen ready for fun. When they come to Mahackeno they join a tradition
much bigger than themselves.
It's our staff dedication to the well-being of each camper...
Our counselors put the emotional and physical safety of each child first. Most counselors are college students, and some are
high school student's often former campers. Staff must pass background checks and are required to attend an intense weeklong
training to prepare for the important roles they will play in our children's summer experience.
It's our commitment to character development...
Camp Mahackeno has made a commitment to demonstrate and instill the values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.
To help give those values everyday meaning, campers participate in the Mahackeno Challenge each session. The Mahackeno Challenge
helps each child set a goal for their Unit, so the Unit can achieve a very special ceremony at the end of each session.
It's our big camp adventure and small camp feel....
We're continually updating the Mahackeno programs and facilities to offer kids fun and great adventure's, yet we've stayed small
enough that each camper will feel comfortable exploring and making their own choices as a member of our small community.
It's our facility...
Camp Mahackeno is 32 acres of fields, woods, meadows, wetlands, and hiking trails set on the shores of the Saugutuck River.
Athletic fields, volleyball and basketball courts, plus a fully equipped waterfront and pool provide for a wide range of activities.
