Water Rats Win 2009 Bronze Medal

Team won medal in USA Swimming's Club Excellence Program
This voluntary Club Excellence program identifies and rewards the top 200 USA Swimming clubs that have attained a high level of athletic performance as well as organizational success.

The 2009 program results are based on performances in the 2008 Olympic year. Clubs have been selected as Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal clubs according to the following parameters:

Gold Level: The top 16 point-scoring clubs, plus up to eight clubs who placed athletes on the 2008 Olympic Team.

Silver Level: The remaining clubs ranked through #100 and not achieving Gold status.

Bronze Level: Clubs ranked #101 through #200 and not achieving Gold or Silver status.

The Westport Weston Family Y Water Rat Swim Team ranked 12th overall in the Bronze level category. A Bronze Medal Club must have at least one 18/under athlete qualify for and compete in the USA Swimming Long Course Junior Nationals. Last summer, the Water Rats sent three swimmers to Long Course Junior Nationals.

Only three other Connecticut swim clubs were recognized this year. The SoNoCo Swim Club and the Cheshire Y Sea Dogs earned Silver Medals while the New Canaan Y joined Westport in the Bronze level category.
