Senior News 5/24
The “unofficial/official” start to summer kicks off this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. The calendar may show the holiday weekend but the weather is telling us something entirely different.
The temperature in the pool is definitely heating up as we have kicked up our training. Seeing where we were after the Senior Spring Invitational – or for some, what they need to do – was encouraging. What is so great about long course racing, is you cannot hide your lack of training. Without the walls/turns, the lack of training is quickly noticed and challenging to overcome without some good old fashioned training.
The incorporation of sneakers into the training has been progressive so as to not put too much strain on the knees. The ankles yes, as we would like improved ankle flexibility. The goal to improve kicking power and kicking endurance is a top priority this season. The latter part of last week and through to June 12 will be an intensive training phase. Thus far, after only a couple of days, the response has been great. Fins have also been added for additional ankle flexibility and for additional speed.
We head back up to Wesleyan June 3-5 for the Woodbridge Invitational. On Saturday, most are swimming two 50’s in Part A of the session followed by three additional events in Part B. No break – at this point – between sessions. Please be prepared for some meet time changes. They will be forthcoming within the week.
We get right back to training on Monday to finish out that particular phase. Additionally, this will also be the week many will be kicking off the joys of finals. Please pace yourselves and plan accordingly. Do not let all the good training go to waste by missing valuable practice time. We will have practice schedule alterations beginning the week of June 13th due to some pool maintenance work at Staples. Those practice time changes will be posted as soon as they are finalized.
Team Apparel: Required!!!!! Suits may be purchased at Metro. Team sweats at Athletic Shoe Factory. Please take care of this ASAP.
