JAG Meet Recap
The JAG swimmers have now competed in 4 very different types of swim meets.
· Our first meet of the season, was the IM TOUGH PENTATHLON at the New Canaan YMCA. At that meet all the swimmers competed in 50 yards Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle. They were supposed to swim the 100 IM too, but the meet was so over subscribed that they scratched the final event from the meet. We had tremendous results from all our swimmers. We had a number of new Water Rats that had never competed in a meet and they acted like veterans! We had no swimmers miss their event or go into the wrong heat. This is truly amazing when you consider we had 16 heats in some events. Over all we produced 116 Personal Best Times, 100 First time swims, and 10 swimmers went their BEST TIME in all 4 events!!!!!!!!
· Our second meet was 2 meets combined into one! The IMX portion of the meet was composed of swimming 5 events; 100 Back, Breast, Fly, 200 Free, 200 IM for the 10 /Unders. Those events were supposed to be compared to other swimmers in the country swimming the same events. The middle section of the meet was dedicated to shorter events and was for 8/unders, and 9+10 year olds. The meet ended up being a disaster on a number of fronts! First off, the meet was moved from Cheshire to Central Connecticut State University. The Seadogs listed the wrong address on the meet entry and since we had never swum there before, Coach Mark and I got lost as well as half our team. Thank goodness our JAG Rep, Dana McCreesh, was on top of the situation. She found out the correct address and posted it for people who are technically up to date. Then the second day of the meet was canceled because we ended up having a freak snowstorm in October and so we didn’t get to complete the 2nd half of the IMX events. The good news was that out of the small group of swimmers we had entered, 8 of them went their BEST TIMES in all three events they swam and we had a total of 74 Personal Best Times in the whole meet.
· Our third meet of the season was our Freestyle Frenzy at Westport. In this meet the JAG swimmers had the opportunity of swimming 50-100-200 Freestyle. Again, many of our rookies, as well as many of the 9 year olds swam the 100 and 200 Freestyle for the first time. Over all we had 139 Best Times and 26 JAGsters who went best times in all three events! That is totally amazing!
· This past weekend, we competed in an Age Group Qualifier at New Canaan Y. We had 14 swimmers swim the 500 freestyle on Friday night. Out of those swimmers, 5 qualified for the Connecticut Age Group Championships and ALL 14 swimmers went their BEST times!!!!!! At this posting, I do not have the official results of the meet, but I do know we had a number of swimmers qualify for Age Groups and New England’s this past weekend. Already this early in the season, we have 10 swimmers who have now qualified for a number of events in both these meets. WOW!
· Our next meet is a one day meet at Hopkins School on Sunday Dec 4. The entries are posted on TMO on our website. (The times will not be updated until we get the results from New Canaan.)
I am extremely pleased with how we are swimming and progressing with our skills! Keep up the good work, JAG!
GO WRATS!
