Jacquelyn Tumminia Named Senior Director of Aquatics and Competitive Swimming

Please join me in welcoming Jacquelyn Tumminia to the Westport Weston Family Y as the Senior Director of Aquatics and Competitive Swimming. Jacquie begins on July 6th. She comes from Rochester, NY, where she ran the aquatics department for one of the country's most successful Ys. Jacquelyn's Profile

Jacquie was an exceptional candidate, bringing a mix of professionalism, organization, experience, and a passion for swimming to the position. As you can see from the attached profile, she has a long history as a competitive swimmer and continues to be involved as a Masters swimmer. She also joins us from The Westside Y in Rochester, NY, where she runs the aquatics department of one of the country's most successful Ys, according to a national survey of membership satisfaction.

Jacquie will be joining the Family Y on July 6th, and she will be actively involved in the search for our new Age Group coach.

The new structure of the aquatics department will allow for greater focus and interaction amongst coaches and athletes, and will ensure regular, quality communication with parents. The Senior Director of Aquatics and Competitive Swimming will directly supervise six leaders: Ellen Johnston, Senior Coach; TBD Age Group Coach (Marta Taddeo is currently leading this group); Kelsey Slater, 8/Under Coach; Karin Guariglia, Aquatics Director; Cesar Vargas, Lifeguard Coordinator; and Patti Kondub, Aqua Fitness Coordinator. This structure entrusts the quality of our competitive and non-competitive programs to a single manager, allowing her to develop a cohesive, progressive approach to swimming. She will be able to guide and support each of the leaders, each of whom brings their own strengths, skills, and experience to their areas of responsibility.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Peter Clark, consultant from USA Swimming, who fully endorses such a set-up. He has offered to come to our Y in July, offering assistance in making this a smooth transition for the coaches and meeting with the parents to continue the team's long history of volunteer support.

One of Jacquie's first tasks will be to find an outstanding Age Group coach. We will begin this process shortly, and will likely set up interviews for the times Jacquie and her family are in town over the next several weeks. Rest assured we are committed to finding an excellent coach in a timely fashion.

Many thanks to our hiring committee (Bonnie Strittmatter, David Blansfield, Emily Fenn, Melissa Augeri, Mike Laux, Monica Prangley, Pam Koss & Steve Ezzes) who provided input in the evaluation of Jacquie and all the candidates.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to continuing to work with your children and you.

Sincerely,

David A. Cohen
