8/Unders to Attend Marie Mortell Meet
On February 5th, the 8/Unders will be attending the Zeus meet being held in honor of the late Marie Corridon Mortell. Mrs. Mortell is the grandmother of our own Edward Stolarski and mother of Sheila Stolarski.
Mrs. Mortell was a gold medal Olympic swimmer who learned to swim at Longshore Club in Westport. Mrs. Mortell was the first woman swimmer in U.S. history to break the one minute barrier in the 100 yard freestyle. In 1948, Mrs. Mortell participated in the 400 meter freestyle relay team at the London Olympic Games. The relay team won a gold medal and set a new Olympic record.
Please join us in wishing the 8/Unders a great meet and hope they swim fast in honor of Mrs. Mortell.

NOTE: Although this is officially a 9/Under meet, WRAT 9-year-olds are not participating. Only 8/Unders will be swimming in this meet.
