Arthritis Aquatic Program
Ruth Sherman teaches the Arthritis Foundation Family Y Aquatic Program in our heated Brophy pool. The class consists of specially designed exercises which can help improve joint flexibility, and relieve pain and stiffness. It is not necessary to know how to swim. Persons with severe joint problems or who have had joint surgery are encouraged to check with their doctors about the need for special precautions.

VIP Water Physical Fitness
Join a certified water exercise instructor with specialty training for various populations (MS, Diabetes, Parkinsons, or Stroke patients) for a great class in the pool! Learn various water exercises, walking techniques, muscle strength, flexibility and stretching routines to maximize the power of water. Bad backs, hips and knees are also welcome!
Stauffer Shallows

Pre/Post Natal Water Exercise Hour
A safe, effective and enjoyable water exercise class for the pre/post natal woman. Class includes muscle strengthening, flexibility, stretching and moderate cardio segments taught by a certified water exercise instructor whose specialties include pregnancy and post-partum programming. Program enrollment is on-going throughout the session and will be prorated.

Aqua Fitness
Classes are not sychronized swimming, water ballet or lap swims! We run, jog, bicycle, cross-country ski, step, row the boat and weight train against the water's resistance in a high intensity, low impact, fat burning, cardio-vascular, muscle strengthening non-swimming workout! You can be fit or out of shape, young or old, male or female, highly conditioned, injured, overweight, pregnant, and you'll find benefits at any of our classes.

Unlimited Classes: Our entire Aqua Fitness & Arthritis Class Schedule is FREE to Fitness Center Members! Please DO register, as we like to know our adult water exercise enthusiasts, and at times need to contact you regarding special classes!

Personal Training in the Pool!
Get in the pool with a certified aquatic trainer for individual instruction! We can assist your post physical therapy...or maybe you need a personal trainer in the pool to get you on the road to better health! Your trainer can write up a program for you to do on your own, or schedule multiple sessions for one-on-one attention. Contact Patty at pkondub@westporty.org.

Class Descriptions
Aqua Fitness
Start out with a warm-up; then 40 minutes of calorie-burning, high energy aerobic water exercise routines to music. A strength conditioning, toning and flexibility segment for 10 minutes using noodles, barbells, and other equipment wraps up a super workout.

Senior Aqua Fitness
A water workout similar to our Aqua Fitness class designed for the active senior in the warmer waters of the Brophy pool. Taught by Ruth Sherman, who is also certified in the YMCA Arthritis Program.

Aqua Deep Jog/Run
This deep water workout consists of jogging, running and a multitude of exercises while students wear jogging belts and/or Hydrofit buoyancy cuffs. It is very challenging cardio and toning work. Students are suspended in the deep end of the Stauffer pool the entire hour!

Swim Fitness
Emphasis on interval swimming, kicking, pulling and distance training. Stroke instruction also provided. Participants should be intermediate swimmers or better.
